They've been garbage for as long as I've been in the parts biz. (1979)
The last PH8A cutaway that I saw was actually an "improvement" over the 1979 version. AT LEAST the pleats now had a metal cleat installed at the media joint. The media was simply overlapped a few folds and glued to cardboard end caps on the '79 vintage.
I seriously want to crawl under John Forces funny car and check what he uses on his. (Orange paint on a Wix?) LOL

BTW ... that filter is not "missing holes".
