mitsubishi eclipse chevy conversion

I own a 1997 Mitsubishi Eclipse RS and I need more power than this engine is willing to offer me. I am thinking of buying a slightly used 1995 camaro short block engine and transmission to replace my mitsubishi ones. I was just not sure is this would work. Will the camaro engine fit? Will I be able to connect all of the interior stuff such as power windows and the a/c? thanks

is the eclipse front or rear wheel drive?

look around for a GTP engine, I've got a friend that loves them and has looked into dropping one into his cavalier. its front wheel drive.

If its rear you could try to get the camaro engine into it. I don't know much about eclipses, would it fit int there?

It's front wheel drive, I have a friend that was a mechanic and he said that a small block would fit but I dont know what kind would be best and before I buy anything I have to be sure that it would fit.

It's front wheel drive.

Taking a 4cly front wheel drive and swapping it with a V8 rear wheel drive isn't going to work and if it did it would take so much time and work to do it right you would have to fabrictae a lot of stuff and how are you getting power to the wheels? Just my opinion but it sounds like a waste of time. I would sell the Eclipse and get something V8 powered like an old IROC camaro or newer Z28's. I would call the swap near impossible because new cars have so many electronics and such it would take years of work. Good luck

Hey Op, sorry, but what you are thinking about is close to impossible. Even if you could fit the SBC in there, you'd have to have a custom tranny built in order to get the wheels to turn (which can be up to 20,000 if you can find someone willing to do it). Your motor is actually a dodge neon motor (I know because I owned a 97 RS). I would say just add a turbo since Eclipses came stock with them, but the motors are totally different. If you really want more power, you'd have to swap out that motor for a stock GST Eclipse motor, but after the 2,000 you spend on that, you still have a stock GST, which will make you happy, but still isn't that fast. I say, if you really want some power, listen to Gearhead and get rid of it, take the money and buy a cheap IROC or something with a V8. Then the left over money can be for hi-perf mods. It will be a lot better than the 15.9 ET's that your car's pulling right now (at least that's what I pulled in mine ).

You need lots of time and skill. I helped a friend at my last job drop a 350 into his Dodge Avenger. Lots and lots of mods....lots and lots. But its one hell of a sleeper. But if the patence and skill is there.......it is possible

Hey scott, is an avenger a FWD or RWD? My whole point is getting a FWD tranny to bolt up to a SBC and work...

It was a front wheel drive car. Like I said, lots of time and skill, the center part of the dash was hollowed out to make room for the dip in the firwall, and I had to make a hump for the trans and rear drive shaft, Minus the hump that the avenger DOES NOT have, it looked stock. The only thing was that the center vents didn't work because the firewall was 1" behind the vents. Looked compleatly stock though. To elabreate on you question, We just unbolted the cv's and added mounts so we could bolt in a rear axle.

WOW! Sounds like a project and a half! I'm still a little unclear, but you made your point that it's possible. Even though I haven't seen it, GREAT JOB! How'd it run, and was it worth all the work?

well, It ran like a 390hp v-8 in a little coup. About the worth, It wasn't mine. He blew his trans, then he blew the engine tring to break the trans. So he was just going to junk it. So with that said, It turned out great. there's a 96' sitting at my G\F's house with a blown trans. Its a friends of her parents from work, but its been there almost 6 months now. It's been giving me ideas....
