Not supposed to. Something about friction modifier and non-friction modifier types. Type F is pretty much by itself. Dexron, Mercon and such, I believe are compatible. I think there are more types developed very recently...I have no idea on compatibilty. Seems like I read some where Dodge is using something different now.????
I can remember way back, Ford used to have a type H fluid, which I believe was replaced with the Mercon fluid.

That one doesn't explain if it can be mixed or not. Something I wonder about myself.

yes Dexron II or III and type F can be mixed.

they will not foam up , slip , turn to goo when mixed.

Cool, I wanted to run type F but did not want to flush the transmission. I've herd flushing is bad for the seals.

After a little research, it appears that most all types of automatic transmission fluid can be replaced (or added) with Dexron (III) type fluid, EXCEPT TYPE F. Any info that I can find says DO NOT MIX TYPE F WITH ANY OF THE OTHER TYPES OF TRANSMISSION FLUID.

============ I have mixed these two for decades with no trouble. The type F will take on more properties of the dexron than the dexron becoming Type F.

Since the removal of whale oil from dexron decades ago under federal and other laws mixing is not an issue.

Under lab testing I read 10-15 years ago dexron held up better than type F. That may be different with modern blends
