Model A gas tank

I have a 28 Model A coupe that still has the original gas tank. I would like some room behind the dash for heater/air so the gas tank has to go. Can anyone give me the rundown on how to remove the gas tank/cowl so I can cut it open for room? Thanks - Jerry

First off, is the tank empty? It has to be completely empty, dry, and free of gas and fumes. Dont do any work on it until this is the case! Once u get to that point, remove (inside the car) the top dash rail and dash board and steering drop and you will now see the underside of the tank. What I did was cut the underside of the tank out using an angle grinder with a cutoff wheel. I didnt have to remove the tank from the car at all. be careful not to cut through the cowl, firewall, and exterior top of the tank. hope this helps.
