Modernization question

I'm wanting to do a frame-up resto on my 87 silverado... But i want to modernize all of the engine and drivetrain... Does anybody know if my truck body will fit on the frame of a 2000-2003 silverado??

I don't know about the cab and bed mount points but those can be changed. what you need to know is the wheel base and overall frame length.

Horsepower tv's show trucks put a ford cab on a dodge. I imagine if you got a welder and are good at fab work you should be able to do it.

Then it's not a resto...

Given enough money and welding rod you can do anything, but that doesn't make it a good idea. The later model frames are considerably wider than the ones under the 73-87 trucks - note how your steering box is outside the frame rail and the later model ones are inside. Same for the gas tank.

It's very easy to install an LS-series engine and trans in your truck. You can get upgraded brakes. The rest of the late model chassis isn't different enough to warrant the work. Just swap the engine and trans.

i've thought of that too but i want to drive my truck as long as possible... thats why i was thinking of using a different frame... eventually i want to put an ls7 and a 6 speed stick in it so i figured i would get a newer frame and do some fab to it and put all the aftermarket performance parts on it so i just have to put my body on it when i'm done...
