Moly Rings

I have heard that you have to use a certain hone finish to get moly rings to seat properly? Is this true and if so, what do you have to use?

Use whatever the ring manufacter recommends, as they always have a different recommended finish. I've used them and honed the block with a basic hand hone and didn't have any issues, however, the rings will seat better and last longer with the correct finish.

Moly rings take a smooth hone, 600 or 800 grit. Chrome rings like a rougher hone 400 grit or a bit less.

Never heard of 800 grit at our shop cast rings require a 220 finish and moly rings require 280 with a 600 plateau or 400 plateau.
