Monster garage

Anyone see it last night. Jessy was in Iraq and they were putting a blown big block in a Humvee. They buggered up the pump on the TH400. They blamed it on not filling the torque converter before they installed it. I have never heard of a pump breaking because it was not filled prior to installation. I think the guy who put the trans in didn't seat the torque converter before bolting up the trans...what do ya'll think?.

Also it was news to me that the Humvee uses a 700R4.

Vince

Yea I catched that last nite and was thinking the same thing. We never fill up our converters in our shop whenever we rebuild trannys/put them back in. Always ran fine, no problems relating to the pump breaking or anything relating to the converter not being full. They all kind of pointed the finger at the one guy and made him feel like total sh** when it probably wasn't his fault. Felt bad for him but I agree with you Vince about the converter not being seated all the way as a possibility. I remember they had a clip where they were spinning it in and I remember one of them saying, "That... feels like it's in right?" I don't think it was properly seated as well but can't really think of anything else that would cause the pump gears just to shatter like that. Sometimes converters act like a big pita going in and won't want to properly seat.
