hey everyone......iam planing a rebuild with a 350sbc and need some advice on what would be the best bang for my buck. i wanna get as much low-end grunt as possible, but dont want to hurt mid-range power. my intent for this motor is purely street. i have an low-rise duel plane intake and long tube headers from a previous build. the block is out of an 85 chevy pick up, and after a compleate tear down was treated good in it's life. imp:
If you going for a low/mid power build, a 383 is probably more of what your looking for. A 350 will make the power, but not near as much as a 383 in the low and mid ranges.
I'm not an expert on this, or even sure if you want to go this route, so I'll let everybody else add on to my post.
Search feature on this site, should bring up ALOT of results for both 350's and 383's also..
(A 383 is a 350 bored .30 over, with a 400 crank. Incase you or anybody reading this didn't know)
i was strongly going that route. what would be the best set of heads to go with? a.f.r. has a good set, but so does world products and patriot. the motor is going in my 87 monte carlo ss and the carb is c/c. would switching to a full f.i. system increase milage and power? or would it hurt? this is my first full rebuild and want this thing to be a monster.....something to scare the living daylights out of people!!!
I know I sound like a broken record, but Vortec. Massive torque, excellent mid range due to its great mid-lift flow numbers, and respectable top end. Vortecs can do more with their 170cc than AFRs can do with 180cc ports. You'll get more torque, better mileage, and the stealthy sleeper look of iron heads.
On a 350 they'll easily breathe to about 6000. On a 383, more like 5000.
Plus, using Vortecs means you have some junkyard EFI options. A properly tuned EFI will deliver more torque and mileage. Get a marine vortec EFI intake. They use traditional external injectors that can be swapped to suit the engine. Normal Vortec EFI intakes from pickups have funky plastic internal injectors that are limited in their flow and can't be replaced with larger nozzles.
thanks.....i totaly forgot about vortec heads!! what kind of car would i find the right efi system for this app.? and also would a thumper cam or muther thumper cam be at home with this combo??
ARE YOU OK? THERE IS NO WAY YOU CAN COMPARE GM VORTECS TO180 AFR 180 VORTES!
