monte carlo ss vs silverado

I have a 2001 chevy monte carlo ss, dale earnhardt edition. It has 86,000 miles. The motor and everything is sound. It has only had mobil one oil in it, my question is- is it time to trade it in because of mileage. I'm considering a 2006 1/2 ton silverado. I am really at a loss of what to do. Any suggestions?? How much life is left in my Monte?

Sounds like a good car, with lots of miles left in it....

As a Moderator here, I would like to WELCOME YOU HERE....

If you really want a new truck.....do it.....I have a 2004 Silverado that I bought new and I think it is the ugliest truck I have ever owned..

But it is a good truck. Just ugly. I liked the 90 Silverado I had but wore it down ( 150 thousand miles ) so I bought a new 96 Silverado......great truck but when it got to 155 thousand......I needed a new truck. So I bought the red 04 Silverado I now have ( 44 thousand miles )...

Prettiest truck I ever owned was a 56 Ford F-100 Big Window.....
Second was a 55 Chevrolet Cameo ....

I have a Mobil 1 car with 236,000 miles on it and does not use any oil or puff at start up, though the mains are starting to sound a little loose on cold start up. Very good oil pressure. Auto trans shifts like new (M1 ATF), wheel bearings, differential, etc. That is all I have used for the last 20 years in everything. period.

How would we know if you want a new truck more than you want a Monte????? LOL....... You might end up like us old geezers.... 10-20 years later wishing we still had that great muscle car we traded for something "new".

Of course, I am a firm believer that if you can't afford to pay cash for that truck, don't buy it. If you can pay cash, don't buy it. Buy something used and decent and save your money for something really important, like retiring at 55 years old.
