Is there a quick and easy way to tell a 727 from a 904?

Thanks, cuda66. The one trans that I have now is out of a '76 Dodge Magnum.

bigjer52,
The 904 has a fairly square pan with one corner lopped off, and the 727 is kinda rectangular, with a lump that sticks out the side in the front, kinda looks like that thing in the back of your throat. Hope that helps. |

sorry it took so log to get back with you i have been hunting this week. I forgot to tell you another way to tell is the 727 is about six to eight inches longer than the 904. Another way to tell is look at the tail of the trans and see if it is long a skinny or is it short and fat! it is short and fat it has to be a 904 or a 500 trans but if it is a long and skinny one it is probably a 727. let me know how it is going. I blew the trans on mine last week and I found a shop to put a manual valve body and rebuild it for about 5 bills with me doing all the knuckle busting. sounds like loads of fun.

Thanks, guys. With your help, I've decided the particular trans I have is a 904. I'm glad to have the info, though, for future reference. I'm not going to rebuild mine just now as it was shifting pretty well in the old Magnum before I pulled it out.
