more info about this rearend

i believe its a ford 9" from about 1957 ..anyone have any info...

That is a '57 to '64 Ford 9 inch rear end. Should be about 59 1/2 inches wide over all with 28 spline axles. These are the weakest of the 9 inch Ford rear ends, but are among the best looking. They are more popular with the street rod guys because they are smooth on the back and most street rods don't need all that much strength.

That first pic looks like a socket will fit the bottom bolts (even though one is not visible), wouldn't that make it an 8"?

Neither of the 2 bottom holes are visible in that picture. It's a 9 inch. I've had many of these older 9 inch rear ends, and I've got one sitting outside my shop right now that needs to find a new home. That's what is called the WAR case, even though this one is marked WAA. I've had a few that were marked WAB too. This was the weakest of all the 9 inch cases, along with the housing. Most of these had 3.10 or 3.56 gears in them.
