Mortec Casting Numbers

For quite a while now, I've been unable to link to their site. Today, I happened across links that work:

New link

http://www.mortec.com/castnum.htm

Their other links are available from the pages above.

Actually, my favorite casting number site is- http://outintheshop.com/faq/casting/castings2.html This site has c/n's the others don't, and they seem to be pretty accurate.

For suffix codes, I like- http://chevymania.com/partsid/suffix.cfm?block=Small

But I know a lot of guys here really like the Mortec site (and I do still use it)- so I put it out there for them. To each their own!

LOL You're welcome. Nothing like keeping the feet (et cetera) nice and toasty! We've gotten a few inches of snow too- here in GA!

Forecast is for frozen roads in the AM, and I believe it- the snow is wet and the temps are still just above freezing, but dropping slowly.

Bad juju.

LOL I'll trade you! That looks like just enough snow to warrant getting the snowblower out!

You guys will warm back up and it will all be gone in a few days....I hope! Gulf states aren't supposed to get snow.

To determine the size and year of the engine, you need to get the casting numbers and casting date- both are located back adjacent to the distributor, on the block (not intake). They will be visible from the top of the engine, not below.

An example of a date code : G118 (G=July 11=11th. day of month 8=year ending in 8, i.e. '58, '68' '78, etc.)
An example of a casting number: 391436, or 3791362, or 14010202.

There may be another useful set of numbers/letters, located on the front passenger side of the engine, right where the head and block meet. The useful part of these codes are the string of digits that end in letters. There may be 1, 2 or 3 letters and there may be a number between two letters. An example would be something like "T0204CKG" ("CKG" would indicate a '72 307 2-bbl SBC).

Hi guys. Just realized this thread was still linking to the archived version of Mortec. Could you please update it with the live locations? Appreciate the help.

The link Cobalt posted at the top of this thread still works for MORTEC.

Also, check out the other link for NastyZ28 and Chevy Mania, they work.

68NovaSS, the links work, but they divert visitors away from the live version of our site, that why I requested that they be changed.

Also, when the robots.txt file on the server is updated, the archived links may stop working.
