which motor

hey i have a question i have 78 trans am with no motor i want to put a good one in it i am not sure what to go with (i am not chevy man) i want a motor that 1 (can put out a little power 2 (easy to find parts for) 3 (dependable) 4 (not a gas waster that gives you an efficente run)

+1... If your not a chevy fan, which would be the most likely or obvious alterative, what else would you stick in there?? A 350-400 Olds would work, but why? Since you mentioned gas mileage why not just stick with a smaller Pontiac and a 5 speed. Edelbrock or "ELDENBROCK" (as some guys call them) alum. heads if you can afford them, Performer intake and a PROPERLY rebuilt q-jet with the right cam and it would have some power but not eat you out of house and home.
