Motor oil

Hello. I have a 350 Chevy that is suppose to have around 425 horsepower. I don't know any particulars about the engine. It has a fairly radical cam, 750 Holley. I am wondering what motor oil I should be using in such a motor. I have 10-40 in it now but have driven it only about 5 miles since I just got the truck done. The guy that had it built and I bought it from has relocated, but I know he drove it very little and raced it at the classic drags a few times. Should I be running maybe 10-30 synthetic in it or what. Thank you.

If it has decent oil pressure with the 10-40 leave it alone. A synthetic oil is helpful in cold weather for starting the vehicle. A heavier oil is good for racing and constant high RPM's. Nothing wrong with conventional oil.

I also would leave the 10-40 in it, it is a good weight oil for engines that don't get used much. I run it in mine or I run st 40 weight.
