Just finished a New 383 roller motor.
Bearings are set at; Main .002 rods .0025
This has a factory Hydraulic Roller Cam System.
Cam Spec. Intake .594 Exhaust .594 Duration @ .050 Intake 242 exhaust 242
E-Tec Vortec 200 CC Heads. Crane roller rockers.
Since this is a roller motor;
What Oil Weight should I used to break it in?
What should I run After Break in?
What Brand Oil?
10W-30 / 10W-40 ?

Thanks Dave

I think for almost all sbc unless you have some weird bearing clearances 10w-30 works good... Most people need to run a special break in oil with lots of zinc and phosphorus for flat tappet cams but you have a roller setup so I would think you should be ok... It wouldnt hurt to run the break in oil though for the first 100 miles and dump it but it is more expensive.... but on the whole what oil is better than the next... your opening a can of worms there.... I run brad penn high performance oil in my motors..
