I personally like both cars and am enjoying the current horsepower wars going on. The winner is quite predictable in this match-up. I can't wait to see the match up between the next 650-hp GT500 and the ZL1.

I love the Camaro. I have always hated Milk-stains, just dont care for them, never have. Camaro (except the 80's models, lets face it, all 80's cars sucked), has always been my dream car.Was a good article. Wish I had the 40-plus grand for the Camaro I want. Oh well. Thanks for the link.

You're welcome! You brought this thread back up at a good time as I was just gonna post some updates on the pony car wars.

P.S. I own an '84 Camaro. It doesn't run. never has since the day I owned. But I like how it looks lol! .




Anywho, as some of you may recall, Ford responded to Chevy's new 580 hp ZL1 Camaro with the 650 hp GT500.

In response, Camaro Chief Engineer Al Oppenheiser said to the Ford fans: "You're welcome

But it didn't stop there. Al has since upped the ante with the following: "We predict that the ZL1 will be quicker to 60 than the [2013] GT500".

The trouble with the new performance cars is that they do not offer a stripped down model. It would be great to be able to purchase a ZL1 without the heated seats and every other luxury option crammed in there. No one offers what I refer to as a "Muscle" version. How about a new Coyote powered Mustang with only air conditioning and electric windows. I don't need a navigation system and heated leather seats. I may be wrong, but none of the new muscle cars have the options a real car guy would want.

It is a apples/oranges comparison, the Camaro is $8,300 more. That is some coin. For next year the new GT500 'Stange will probably be $8,000 more than the Chevy and will of course have better performance numbers with its 650 hp engine, then it will be blown against blown, and apples to apples comparison.

I just looked on Ford's site. The base Mustang GT can be had with cloth seats, single CD player, just normal air conditioning, and that's about it. It's also "only" $30,000. I believe the Camaro is similar.

I agree. Pure "stripper" versions would be great!

I gave the Chevy site a visit. $32,000 for the basic V8.

650 hp in the GT500 is also ridiculous and a complete waste. I do believe the 2013 GT500 will have significantly upgraded brakes compared to the 4 piston Brembo fronts on the 2012-prior Shelbys.

What I would like to see is a Camaro Z/28 to compete against the Boss.

One way to bring costs down in the current crop of Muscle cars is to just quit offering gimmicks and pointless crap. I own a 2011 Mustang and generally enjoy it but I can't stand the sequential taillights, ambient lighting, lighted door sills, etc... The 2013 Mustangs also have a "pony projection light" that shines an image of a mustang on the ground when you unlock the doors. Why?!?! It's useless.
