MP 182 over bare metal?

Guys is it ok to spray MP 182 urethane surfacer over small areas of bare metal from block sanding filler? I am working on the rear doors of my work van, making my way around it in prep for a paint job. I plan to seal everything with epoxy before the top coat. Using Kirker SS urethane for top coat. Hoping I dont have to epoxy all the filler and bare spots first.

thanks

chas

2k primer over small spots of bare metal is done everyday in the world of production collisions shops, with very few problems.

In a perfect world you would follow what the manufacturer says about using their 2K over bare metal, some say never, some say OK.
Whatever the answer 2K primers will stick to metal but not as good as an epoxy and they really lack the corrosion protection that the epoxy has.

Will the paint fall off if you use the 2K this way? No but it could be the difference of getting a door bump in a parking lot or a stone bouncing off the road and you ending up with a stone chip or not.

If the car has any value or going to be around a while, use the epoxy.

Ok Barry, Ill hit it with the epoxy first. It is the back of my work van and will suffer small dings/scratchs. So it sounds like I need the rust protection of the epoxy.

thanks Barry
