MSD 6BTM or 6AL-2 Programmable

I just added a 6 71 Weiand blower to my 383 SBC and wanted to ask which ignition box I should go with.

I have a truck mounted Alcohol Injection System (AIS). A key piece of information is my compression is a little high at 9.8 but I don't plan to race the car as it is just a street cruiser. I only plan to run ~5lbs of boost. The blower will be under-driven at -10.5.

I currently have the 6AL-2 Programmable which will allow me to lock out the dist and set the timing curve from a laptop and also pull timing out per lbs boost. The 6BTM has a dial to manually adjust how much timing to remove per lbs of boost.

My question: What box does everyone recommend for my application and why? I searched the site but can't get a clear asnwer so thought I'd try and get first hand expeience and input.

Thanks in advance.

I'm not familiar with an AL-2 program, and wonder how does is pull timing without a boost reference line from the manifold?

I run a BTM on my 8-71 383. When it was sent to El Paso for repairs I bought a 6-AL, went to the strip for test and tune, with conservative timing and running rich, three runs later if nosed over at 1,000 feet, burned 5 pistons. They were hammered so bad I couldn't pull the rings from the grooves, and of course I couldn't hear it happening. I hope that programmable unit does what you say, it was an expensive day for me thinking I was good to go. I've since installed an injection system as well.

You bring up a good point. I guess I'm safer just setting the timing and using the BTM to pull it out.
