MSD 7AL vs Msd digital 6 in a race car?

After over reving and bending 9 pushrods and valves late this year, I thought it might be a good idea to this year throw out the msd 6A and get something with rev controll + 2 step. I feel the MSD 6AL technology is a little behind the times so am looking for a slightly better box to suits my needs. I am open to all brands so let me know your experiences.

Application: Drag Racing Only, Low 9's BBC Altered Roadster.

Budget: $200 - $400

IMO, I would go with the 7AL since the 6A was giving you enough spark. There's no real need to get anything "better" since there's no need for more spark (because the 6A was working). The 7 has the rev limiters you need, as you already know. Good luck, and what kind of times are you pullin with that thing?! Looks pretty scary...

I would take the Digital 6 to fit under your price range, the others have more features but you don't get better spark until you spend double that on one of the new Digital 10 Pro's. Lots of moola.

Yep, I would love to try one of those. Custom ignition curves based on MAP.....cool!

Sorry buddy, I got more cars than brains. Going to put the MSD 6A back on my 72 ventura where I got it from. I can not sell anything as low and behold, something else is going to need it soon or it was already "borrowed" off of. Sure there are many guys over hear that understand what I am talking about...lol.

I got her to run a string of 9:10's this year @145mph. SHe is a handful to drive though, not one of these point and go type. Has a tendency to go 1.20 60ft right across the centerline. Yeee Haaa. Had to get on the binders a couple of times in eliminations towards the end of the year so I know the 8's will not be illusive forever. Just want to run 1, then i will change gears, back it off a little and try to get some consistency going. (ya right!!!)

Those who are interested:
weighs 2400, 4:30 gears, Pg w/5500 stall, 454 +.100, 12 to 1, solid 630 cam, Team G sucked in through an 850 DPP.

We use a 7AL-2 with a crank trigger and a blaster SS coil. The ability to have different stage limiters hooked in is really nice, and it's worked perfectly consistent since we hooked it up. I haven't looked in that section of Jegs for a while, but I think they're expensive Either way, it was definitely worth the money.
