MSRA Back to the 50's

I attended the 40th Back to the 50's as a participant on Friday. The day started at 3:40 am when I was woke up by non-stop thunder and lightning. Then the rain and wind hit. I checked the radar and it looked like it would clear out around 8:00am, so I headed out around 5:30. It rained lightly all the way there and then stopped about the time I pulled into the Fairgrounds at 6:20. It stayed mostly overcast the whole day, as evidenced by the pics, but that didn't stop 11,000 plus cars and around 100,000 participants, passengers and spectators from attending.
I took 158 pics and will only post a few of the most interesting ones in the thread for various members.
This is a link to all of them on Photobucket.

The first one is for Brian. An AD truck with a "bit " of a top chop.....6 1/2" to be exact... There was a canopy and a bunch of people in chairs right next to it and I couldn't get a full length shot...

Oops, the wife is ready to go out to dinner, so I'll get back to this later.

Nother one for Brian.

For BOBCRMAN...

Row of raodsters...

LOVE those huge tires !!!

Possibly the worlds FIRST "Hot Rod"....it had white letter tires and CHROME dual straight pipes. I forgot to get a pic of the engine swap. It had an 8 HORSE Briggs pushing this puppy !!!

A few gassers for 71BB....sorry, no Falcons...

This guy had the hood open later and I forgot to get a pic. It appeared to be a blown hemi with 429 Ford stickers on it. Did Ford make a 429 hemi ??

This guy is a member on here and a pic of the door is his avatar. Here's the whole car and it sounds as WICKED as it looks !!!

This truck really struck a chord....

That's all for now. Click the link at the top and look thru the album. If you see any favorites, post them up !!

Did the Hemi look like this? It's a 429 SOHC Ford!

Great photos of some great cars! Yeah the truck is cool, over chopped for my liking but he has some fun with it. I dig the Rambler, awesome dash with the extra gauges. I want to add a few but just can't see cutting up Marge, I love her the way she is. It's like the boob job you know, I just can't see it.

And the story on the Chevy pickup's tailgate, wow! Reading it to my wife actually made me a little verklempt. I respect those men with all my heart. I have had the good fortune of meeting a few and the stories that those guys had by the time they turned 20 years old!

That's so much for the photos of our favorite cars, that was very nice of you.

Brian

No, it looked just like a Chrysler, with the plugs in the center of the valve cover and no overhead cam capability.

I don't know, it sounds like one of those Chevys with the Cadillac valve covers. I don't get that either but if you had a HEMI I sure as heck don't understand why you wouldn't be PROUD of that!

Nice truck for sure,,, But it's too much chop,,,Them truck's with that much chop look's funny... To pull off that much chop on that truck, It has to be on the ground for one and also sectioned.... That much chop like it is, look's like someone dropped something on it... Like I said.. Look's like it's well done for sure,,, But look's to flat for me...

Those plugs are actually just the plug wires, they are going into the valve cover to the plugs that are in a hemispherical combustion chamber. These Fords are called a "Hemi" though by real definition it's a "semi-hemi" because the plug isn't in the center top of the combustion chamber.

There's also this Ford, I am not a Ford guy but one is a 427 the other a 429 I believe.

Here's one for sale, it's only $28K

Nope, not as cool as a Chrysler Hemi that is for sure. But for a Ford fan it sure would be! But nothing looks as good as the Chrysler in my opinion, pretty much screams HOT ROD!

Click on the photo to put it at full size, what a GREAT looking car!

Ahhhhhh 12 spokes, ahhhhhhh I feel dirty looking at those with my wife in the room. Honestly those suckers have always grabbed me. Spindle mount 12 spokes, ahhhh.

And yes, I believe that is a "hot rod".

Brian

edit, I just noticed those aren't spindle mounts. Damn they sure look good anyway.
