Muffler ?

Does anyone know if a set of stock muffler's will hurt my performance very much, i'm kinda look'in for a nice quiet muffler for my 1/2 ton truck that will still let me here the bump of the cam. I wanna stay away from the noisy sound of the glasspack's of the world. I think when a car or truck pull's up next to me at a light with a quiet exhaust, and you can still here that cam lump is kinda cool. I've got a 1/2 ton sport truck with a 355 sbc, with 9.3 c/r, S/R torquer's with 170cc intake runner's, a Comp 268H cam, a saginaw 3-speed, 340 gear's, a set of Summit brand long toobed header's. (PS.) When i sit next to a good look'in chick at a light, and she's in a BMW, or a SAAB, I feel like a (BIG CHUMP) with a loud set of pipe's.

Always remember if it's too loud you're too old! I have some Jegs turbo mufflers on my 66 stang and they aren't too loud. I did have some glass packs on it before the turbo's and after a while the drone would kinda get to you.

I have been trying to tell the bunch around here that since I got here. A quiet sounding rumble sounds much better than the farting sound from those glaspacks. I usually try to get a 24 inch turbo muffler, with full tailpipes. Sounds good and you can hear that lope of the cam....music to my ears.

I used to have glasspacks on my big block chevelle (never again will i subject myself to that), i got a set of Jeg's turbo mufflers and they quieted my big block down to a whisper, but it still had a little roar on the take-off.

What's the diff between a turbo muff, a glasspack and a cherry bomb? a turbo looks the same as a glasspack except it's longer.

I have (glasspacks?) about 16" long, and to me they are pretty quiet.

A turbo muffler looks like a regular muffler, but has a different baffling system inside to reduce back pressure. They first came out in the 60s on the turbo charged Corvairs.

It's hard to keep up with that cause everyone has a different name for their muffler.

In some catalog I have they show a muffler that looks like a long
glasspack, and they call it a "turbo".

The sound of your car is its signature, so don't go cheap on exhaust and mufflers. Get something fully welded or brand name. Spend the money, make your car sound professional. Glasspacks are outdated and really don't make optimal power. They sound like crap too. I mean, you could kick a tin garbage can down a flight of stairs and get a better sound out of it.
