muffler collectors

Hello . Has anyone out there had any luck making a quiet muffler inside the header collector ? I've got 4" stainless collectors --12" long --45degree turn--flattened ends ... I've made all sorts of stuff inside 'em but not had luck .I can split them open .. install baffles of some sort and weld them back . I just have not come up with a design . thanks

Have you thought of installing motorcycle baffles in the runners before they reach the collector?

Why not just add a muffler after the collector?

supertrapp makes a stubby muffler, I don't think you could mount it hidden inside the collector though.
A friend of mine used some inverted cones that welded into the end of his megaphones. You can't see them and they supposedly muffle the sound. Summit sells them. They are made by dynatech . the part # for the 4" diameter (in the summit catalog), is dtc-72-32530.
Hope this helps,
