I have a slow leak coming from the front of the trans. I would like to know how to check for proper trans fluid level.If I need to add some trans fluid and what type of fluid ? Until I can pull it and get it fixed. The trans is a M-22 close ratio 4 speed. Thanks dzguy.

There is a square plug about 1/2 way up on the side of the tranny (pass side). The fluid (90 wt gear oil) should come up to this point.

If it is a real m22 it will have 2 plugs on the passinger side of the transmission.The top plug is the fill and the bottom plug is the drain. Remove the top plug and stick you little finger in to the first knuckel. If you get fluid on the tip of your finger it is full enough. If not you can fill it till it just trickels out the hole....

Any good quality 80/90 weight gear oil is fine...
