Muncie 4spd Question

I have a 69 camaro SS/RS 396 camaro that I have had for years. The car had a muncie M-21 in it when I bought it and it lived for years behind the 396 and later on an LS-6 454 crate motor. The car evolved into a 10.5 race car auto BIG 500 plus cube big block auto and ladder bars coilovers. Here is the question, I recently converted it back to leaf springs with Detrot Speed parts and I want to drive it now. I have the M-21 (completely rebuilt) and a pump gas 509 BBC Pro-1 heads roller cam etc... Do you think the M-21 will live behind the 509, the car will have 325/50/15 M/T drag radials but will mostly be a cruiser. Thanks

Street driving and occasional burnout it should be a ok. Start launching hard and if it hooks up to the ground it will fall apart.

muncie

Well, anything can be broken if you try hard enough... But if you have the shifter set-up correct, the trans rebuilt by someone that understands muncies and never shake the tires i would race that car (with the 509) every weekend with slicks and never worry about breaking that trans...

Not so, many drag racers in the sixties and seventies used the venerable Muncie for drag racing and never broke them. Yes, some Muncie's broke, but they were high mileage trannys that had not been rebuilt properly or not rebuilt at all. As long as you are hooking up properly and not hopping the tires you will not have a problem, certainly not to worry about it falling apart .

Thats why I am here I always pick up something new. I was speaking from the experience of two local trans shops and just about everyone else I talked to before I joined this site that told me to stay away from the manual all together for sticking the ground on launch. I was eyeballing a empty rockcrusher case as I really wanted a M22 behind my smallblock. Ended up building a T350 for drag. Engine blew up and now the truck wont be able to drag (with 307) so I think I should have stuck with the rockcrusher to begin with.
