Muncie M20 linkage placement

I am installing a Muncie M20 into a Rambler American and am using a Hurst Competition Plus shifter. My question is...do the shifting arms face down or up on the side of the tranny?

This is an OEM Hurst from a Pontiac. Same deal, IIRC.
