muncie m21 vs m22

I have heard that the m22 "rock crusher" is the best tranny for high horsepower applications. What about the m21? How reliable is a rebuilt m21 in mid to high horsepower applications?

I've installed them both.And In my opinion the M-22 is way better.The M-21 was close ratio but I've broken quite a few more of those,Than a M-22.The M-21 was good enough for a street driven cars,And racing.But the M-22 was far superior to it.I've only broke a M-22 twice.And I broke a M-21 more than 8 times.

M22 is superior, but at the expense of a little more gear noise. For what M22's are going for these days it makes no sense to buy one unless you are doing a resto. You can buy a Richmond transmission for the going price of an M22.
