Muncie question

Can muncie m21's be upgraded to the m-22? If so, how can you tell if you have a m-21 that was rebuilt as an m22? What needs to be looked for.

Yes, provided it's the version with the 1" countershaft pin instead of the earlier 7/8" pin. The M21 and M22 have the same ratios, but the M22 get's it's additional strength from having a less helical angle on the gear teeth. That's also where it gets it's additional noise. Unless your very familiar with Muncies, it can be difficult to determine if it's an M21 or M22 by looking at the gears unless you see both side by side, then the difference is apparent.

If thats the picture of the transmission it's a m20/m21 not a m22....
