Muncie transmission mount for my 55 2 door

I have a 55 Chevy that has a 1972 Chevy 350 bolted to a Muncie 4 speed. There is a jerry rigged transmission crossmember, it is horrible. I need a part source for an aftermarket transmission crossmember for this setup. Any idea what the number of inches of drop are required, if any.

What are you using for engine mounts....stock, side mounts?

I ran my 55 for years with the stock front/bellhousing mounts. A trans crossmember was not necassary.

The drop on your crossmember will depend on the angle that the motor is sitting at...Personally, I don't think that any drop is needed.

Stock mounts up front on the engine. Can you believe someone actually welded rebar between the frame and the scattershield? Crazy.

Thanks for your reply.

If you are using the front engine mounts and a rear crossmember only, that is a long stretch. Causes the engine/trans to flex too much.

Is this rebar supporting anything?

My opinion....I think that you should be looking into side mounts for the engine, and a new crossmember for the tranny. Sounds like someone has butched this pretty well.

Either that or find some proper mounts for the bell housing.

Any pictures of this "mess"?

You know, that is a good idea. I will take photos and post them
