You betcha, I liked it a lot - - - - didn't download it however LOL We always called that type of music "Jive" but like I mentioned before, I'm old ! Engineczar - - - most great artists really dig their predecessors that kept the door open for them. I'll bet Buddy was a fan and admirer of Neils as well. |

Ah yes, I've always been a great Slim Whitman and Elton Brit fan because of their yodeling style of voice.
My Mom and Dad grew up in the Panhandle of Texas where Bob Wills and The Texas Playboys played the local dances when they came thru. I knew the ALL THE WORDS to Roly Poly when I was 3 years old and I too remember those 78s and the "pure" raw sound of the post war music. Have to admit that my favorite version is by my "sweethearts" The Quebe Sisters Band - - - check'em out sometime. As Waylon said "When you cross that 'ol Red River, Hoss, Bob Wills is still the King!" |

Bob Wills man I havn't heard that name in 55 years!
Here's something different not a great singer but a great movie I saw when I was about 14 years old and suitable for a hot rod sight seeing as how moonshiners started it all! My grandfather made and delivered shine and my Dad was his Mechanic before WW 2 and then he joined the cc camps in Hopkins Ville Kentucky! I always hoped they would remake it: Jester Last edited by painted jester; 11-08-2012 at 04:51 PM. |

A remake would be awesome. There's been many a Great Car Movie made since then but it will always remain my favorite. I even remember going to the Texan theater in Cleveland, Texas and watching it. My Dad was also in a CC Camp in 1936(see link below) and was a Mechanic at the Ford Garage in Shamrock, Texas before he was drafted.

Many young men went to the C.C. and sent all their money home to feed their parents and brothers and sisters , They built this Country In the worst times of our history! There's not much said about them in the history books and they went from C.C. to W.W.2 My dad when we went south used to show me the tree lines they planted and and earth they moved with piks and shovels! He was prowd of that and being a veteran of the Bulge!!! 1 gold star 2 bronze and a purple heart he met my mother in the underground She was Flemish! and in a Catholic concentration camp the Nazi's killed and butchered 3 million Catholics in those camps but all you hear about in the history books are the 6 million Jewish deaths! That's too bad! A lot of ethnic and religious people were butchered by the Nazis and pretty much forgotten about The Gypsies were almost made extinct!
This is in memory of my Mother and every one else's !!Edith Piaf my mothers favorite singer! A tiny woman with a voice that belted it out! I'm listening to it now and am getting teary eyed! I didn't think I could find these in English!! She was powerful even if you didn't understand the language!! Im a biker and an educated red neck and Ive listened to everything! Piaf since I was a baby in my mothers arms! Listen to these and tell me what you think! And to we and our fathers of war Jester |

Yeah Mego, there are so many past and present great guitar pickers and some never got the recognition that they deserved but that's the brakes and the nature of the bizz. I have pretty much poste my favorites here on this thread. Sure hope that boy of yours gets his shot at it and I can't wait to hear some of his stuff.
Chris, Mz Edith certainly has that "period" voice with the Cabaret sound and vibrato. It reminds me of another wartime warbler but I can't remember the name right now. I sure enjoy hearing about your family and your Dad's service to our Country is appreciated by this Citizen. |
