My son turned to me and said "Dad what are they clapping for?" and I told him "David, if you don't know then you're better off for not knowing !" Then we quietly exited the premises.

Good post, Chris, and a point well taken - - - - I vote for Haley and The Comets myself. Can't give Ike credit for much of anything but that's just me.

Only Steppenwolf album I had, had Magic Carpet Ride, Keep of the Grass (or what ever it was), Pusher, and a few more I don't remember. I think it must have been a 'hits' album. But it was good. I don't know how many Easy Rider soundtrack albums were sold, but EVERYBODY had one!

It turned a lot of people on to The Band- one of my all-time favorite groups. I think I remember one of the original members dying recently.

First time I heard Steppenwolf in concert was at the Armory in Tampa. Ticket was $7.50. John Kay played a small club out on E. 50 in Orlando called the Varsity in about '86 (only remember cause of the shuttle blowing up), still called themselves Steppenwolf but not everybody was still w/him by then. Ticket price? $7.50!

In '86 they were w/o doubt the loudest f ing band I have ever "heard"- and I saw Blue Cheer, Ted Nugent numerous times (even back to the Amboy Dukes), even Hendrix at the second Atlanta festival- but none were as loud! They had a wall of Marshalls and they were set on KILL. You'd have thought they were playing the freaking Superdome, not a bar w/a 150 occupancy permit!

My ears were never the same afterwards. Seriously. If I had it to do over, I'd have walked outside and listened from there.

you betcha, a great "BAND" pun intended - - - yes we lost their drummer and vocalist, Levon Helms, on April 19th of this year - - - FWIW, he played Loretta Lynn's (Sissy Spacek) father in "Coal Miner's Daughter". R.I.P. Levon

Yeah, rock might be a stretch.

One song I see on the "18 Top Hits", "Hallelujah I love Her So" is a Ray Charles tune, also covered by Humble Pie. BTW, this is the band Peter Frampton was in right before he went solo. Humble Pie "Smokin" is one of my top 100 albums.

Interestingly enough replicas of Captain America's and Billy's ( Fonda and Hopper) bikes are on display at the Harley Museum in Milwaukee. You'd think they would have the original but both bikes were stolen at the end of the movie and haven't been seen since!

I saw Easy Rider and the movie The Trip as a youngster, hated the ending of Easy Rider. i was forbidden t see these movies by Mom, so of course I had to go.

Saw Steppenwolf a couple of years ago, a great concert. McCay talked of his "hard" years, interesting stuff. They sounded great.
Still like my XM/Sirius radio, Deep Tracks. They play music I plumb forgot existed, their D.J.'s have an incredible knowledge of the older music. Pat St. John on Bluesville and psometimes on Deep Tracks, he was there, met a lot of the old timers, awesome to listen to the history he has in his mind. Earle Bailey is another DJ that is a wealth of knowledge. Best 8 bucks a month that I spend! I am in my truck traveling 600-800 miles a week for my job, a lot of time spent in traffic in S. Cal, I'd be miserable if these guys didn't keep me entertained.
