I was a huge Barlow-era Iced Earth fan for a long time. Still listen to them occasionally. I agree with the some semblance of talent comment. I think anything Alex Webster plays on has at least some musical merit, he's a great musician. What about Devin Townsend? I like his solo stuff more than Strapping Young Lad, but I think everything he does is pretty awesome. I listened to a bit of power metal for a while like Jag Panzer, Blind Guardian, etc but I'm such a die-hard Maiden fan that I just keep going back to them to feel what that genre has to offer.

Sorry for the twenty questions, I'm sure you didn't include an answer in the thread solely to indulge my curiosity.

Here's my contribution: Lynyrd Skynyrd - Call Me The Breeze (lyrics) - YouTube

Have a great weekend, Y'all,

Love SRV and can easily enjoy some Skynyrd or ZZ Top if it's playing on the radio. Everything except sweet home alabama. KFC commercials ruined that song for me, I can't stand listening to it.

I heard country mentioned a couple times. Love Merle Haggard, David Allen Coe, John Anderson, and Hank Jr. Stuff I grew up on from my dad. If anyone else is a David Allen Coe fan, I suggest checking out Rebel Meets Rebel. It's David Allen Coe backed by Darrell and Vince Abbott of Pantera. Quite a mix of sounds, even if just for the novelty of it.

Southern Pickers feel the same way about that one. We hate it even worse than drummers hate wipeout. LOL

I love a bit of everything! I'm really young only 21 years old
My main music love has always been classic metal Iron Maiden is my favorite all time band, I also love Judas Priest, Motorhead, Black Sabbath, Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax, Slayer, etc. I am also a huge Iced Earth fan, I am surprised two people on this thread mentioned them because even huge metal heads I know barely know them! Though I got into the band during the Ripper Owens era, I have always liked his singing better with 10,000 strong as my favorite song.
I also have always been a huge fan of Rockabilly because of that I bought an Epiphone Dot Studio guitar a two years ago as my first electric! I love Carl Perkins, Eddie Cochran, Johnny Cash, Gene Vincent, and new rockabilly like Reverend Horton Heat, Psycho Devilles, Stray Cats, and several others.

I have been into surf rock lately both classic like Dick Dale, Link Wray, the bel-airs, never was a big fan of the beach boys though... Then I like modern surf rock like Agent Orange (80's surf-punk band), the Mermen, Surfer Blood, Daikaiju and Man or Astroman?

As for rap not a big fan of it almost all my friends are though! I prefer thrash metal while skateboarding they always blast rap.

I do like a lot of Reggaeton though (probably the Latin in me coming out), I worked as a club promoter for a short time and their main music was Reggaeton sadly they went out of business...

But I am actually forming a surf rock band with a few friends. Going to be more surf reviel inspired with hints of rockabilly, and hard rock mixed in.

I am also a huge fan of Fu Manchu if you are a gearhead (most of you are), a fan of early 70's hard rock like Mountain, Sabbath and Zepplain, and a fan of some punk and some surf Fu Manchu is the band for you!

Every other song they have is about cars

I go with
country but am picky, don't like my dads country guess you'd call that bluegrass..
metal.. all.. but mostly bands that have a singer not a screamer that sounds like a guy with marbles in his mouth and a bad headcold..
r'n'r, most anything.. not so much into the 50-60's cooner rock.. thats a snooze..
rap.. back when it was fun.. and it all didn't sound the same..
dance- not to be confused with disco(70's) or late 90's on hip hop.
trance- enigma/etc
bluesy rock.. not into the older blues, but thats mostly because the recording quality on most sucks..
tecno again like rap.. I'm picky s way to much of it sounds the same..
big band music..
country rock/southern rock from the late 70-80's skinard/38 special/molly hatchet/etc
hair/glam metal.. the last party rock before the downer grunge became the in thing..
music should be a pick-me-up.. not a downer..
guitar based music that has players that can play.. some of todays bands guitarist make ACDC's young brothers look like guitar gods..
guitar music, with no vocals..
parodies..
and gasp some disco..
and when I'm in a bad mood, nothings better than a block of metalica/megadeth/pantara/maiden/priest, to let go.. and put a smile on your face...

MXrider, if you like surf'n music you might give the Beach Boys another chance because they introduced and innovated a sound that was brand new and much needed at the time. Their harmonies were the first of its kind to storm the charts. HOWEVER, once the "Bubble-gummers" started freaking out over them then most serious Rockers kinda backed away and that's very sad indeed. Lik'em or not they were "true" pioneers in their field.

Thanks P.J. I'm liking everyone of those - - - that's my kind of instrumentation - - - - I grew up on that kind of Rockabilly.
Here's one you might like also by the late great Danny Gatton who I thought was as good of a Rockabilly/Rock/Outer Space guitarist I've ever had the pleasure of listening to. That's Delbert McClinton on vocals BTW.

I am country first above all else. Conway Twitty, Alan Jackson, to name a few. But rock during the 70's and 8o's always gets my attention. It was a great era. The Boss, Meatloaf, Hollies, Bonnie Tyler.etc...The list is endless. It's just ashame music has moved on to what it has become now. Maybe I'm just feeling my age.

yup, I know all too well about certain music when you're crusin' - - - Skynard and ZZTop has that effect on me also.

Danny's Crusin' Dueces is one of my favorites to keep in the ride.

Harold Jenkins (aka Conway Twitty) was a musical genius and he knew exactly what songs would sell - - - - what a loss !

Here's my last one for the night showing what it is to "really OWN" your axe as Danny did ! Watch it all and be amazed !
