I have a number of those original reports on that LP of mine. Very sobering, sad in deed.

One of the greatest groups IMO to exploit that 'space' was Free - here's a tune of theirs I used to perform with my band, 'I'll Be Creepin'

Guys, if you really love music you need to do what I did. My brother-in-law bought me a book "100 greatest albums of all time" for Christmas a few years ago. I hardly opened it for a year or more when one day I read what it said about Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts club band (which it ranked in the top five as I remember) and I couldn't believe how it sounded like I had written it! I heard it about the same time and age, thought about the same, it was really a trip. So I figured if he thought the same as me about this, I would try the others that I had never had an interest in. I had a used record (and CD of course) store near me and I started stopping there every Friday and as a present to me I bought a CD on the list. Ones I never would have bought. And I really was exposed to some great stuff that I literally "didn't like" before I was forced to get it being it was in the book. The list I worked off of looks a lot like this one.
100 Greatest Albums of All Time - Rate Your Music
I actually thought it was the same list but as I scrolled thru it I noticed some that aren't on mine. Anyway, print this list out and start scratching off the ones you buy. I have gotten a lot on ebay (after the used record store near me closed) and they are often very cheap, like 5 bucks with shipping.

I read what the guy said about the album then put it in my car and listen on the way to work and home start to finish. If I don't like it, I listen to it again and give it a good chance. I have only disliked a couple of them. Often I am blown away at all the great songs on an album that I had previously only heard the one hit.

Give it a try, you won't be sorry.

Brian

thanks, Brian, the music that was coming out of the South and other spots in the Country during the late 60s and early 70s was quite an experience - - - bands like Wet Willie, Little Feat, Allmans, CDB, Skynyard, Poco, Barefoot Jerry and, of course those "Outlaws" (Waylon, Willie, Bocephus, ETC) were mixing Country/Blues/Rock together and blowing me away.

I was surprised how many albums I have on the 100 Greatest Albums, and how many of the artists too but
another album of theirs.

I had a number too, on vinyl! The trick is to buy those that you never bought, some of them were simply not your style and never even thought about buying them. A couple blew me away, one was Kind of Blue by Miles Davis. Never got it, just didn't get improvisational jazz, loved music but could have cared less about that stuff. After reading the description in the book that explains how this album was recorded on one take, no rehearsal, and a couple of the guys had never even played together!

This was 1959, I couldn't get it out of my head how the songs I loved, how if those guys were just thrown together with no rehearsal in one take, what would Dion and the Belmonts have sounded? Not good I would suspect. Anyway, I found a respect for the music that I never had before giving them a try.

It was because of this book I bought Thriller and was newly "introduced" to it (I had it on vinyl) and again, REALLY listened to these cds, not just played them in the back ground while I was working. I listened to them and studied them. Thriller blew me away, that was GREAT pop music. Anyway, I did this a week before he died.

GREAT pop music!

Brian
