The C4 has a separate bell housing that may need to be changed. There are at least 6 different bell housings, but the transmission is the same until you get to the input spline - then the torque converter has to match. Depending on the year, that spline went from 24/24 to 26/26. The cut off year is 1970 but in '71 Ford went to a 26/24.
Then those bell housings - that also meant a different diameter flex plate and ring gear tooth count number plus the right converter. Not insurmountable once the transmission is out - but a crap shoot after 40 plus years and folks fixing plus mixing and matching.
Oh yeah, then there is pan fill (early) and case fill (later) versions, but that should not make any difference
Do you have a headache yet??
Parts are easily and fairly reasonably available.
