Mustang GT 5 spd-no reverse

We have a 97 Mustang GT with a 5 spd stick. It will not go into reverse. The 5 forward seem to be OK. No noises, just no shifting.

Any ideas as to what specifically? And the price guesses?

take off the shift knob and get a huge pipe and put it on the shift knob for more leverage and pull it into reverse carry the pipe around with you so when you need reverse you can use the pipe. lol i'm j/p but may-b i bumped your thread to the top so smart people can answer

As I remember the reverse idler is mounted to the right side of the case wirth a large torx bolt, I have seen these bolts removed to check fliuld level, then the idler drops to the buttom of case and no reverse gear. Can the shifter be put into the reverse position?

It would not move into reverse. It has been this way a couple weeks.
Today it is OK and the entire transmission is shifting better than ever.

Anybody got any ideas at all?

I had a guy tell me that there is a pin on the shaft that gets bent and jams it. When it finally breaks off then everything is OK... He said he had the same problem. Does this seem to make sense to anybody?
