Mustang LX 2.3L Worth Working On?

I haven't given up my 5.0 project by any means but while driving to work this morning I had a strange thought.
How hard would it be and what is possible to do to a 2.3L Ford Mustang LX engine? It's a 2.3L EFI, 2 plug per cyl, 140ci. If it's possible it would be a nice engine to drop into an older Ford small car later on as a gas saver.
Is it possible guys?
Oh and thanks for all the help on the 302 conversion inquiry. Between y'all and my assistant (assistant manager, I manage an arcade) I now know I need more money and more knowledge on Fords to do the project completely and be done RIGHT. It's great to see such a place as y'all have here.

sounds like a nice idea. drop maybe even the thunderbird turbo coupe 2.3 in a older escort or something. i think it would be a neat idea, but the money u save on gas more than likely will not make up for money spent converting, unless u absolutely love the car (now come on ) but it would still be a good idea.

2.3

sounds like a good swap into a pinto or some such rear wheel drive. and there are goodies available for that engine. try Racer Walsh in florida, they do a lot of 4-6-8 ford stuff. A K&N air filter, and a set of headers with a 2 inch exhaust and turbo would liven it up as well as improve gas mileage too boot. would make anice sleeper to run. would also be easy to put in a less popular car like a 2 dr maverick.

make that turbo muffler.
