Post Mustang Road Racing Mods Project

Here is some pictures of my latest project, a friend is modifying his 91 Mustang for road racing and he asked for some help making some custom rear suspension pieces...how could I resist! The parts in the picture below are the some of the parts I had to fabricate to replace the upper control arms with adjustable rod ends. The large CPVC plastic bushings go into the sleeves shown for the custom lower control arms (not shown). Total machining time for all the parts shown was 10 hours. Tomorrow I will get some photos of us finishing the lower control arms and installing the upper control parts I made onto the rear axle. We will be installing disc brakes from a late model Lincoln onto the factory 8.8 axle, I'll try to get some photos of that mod too. If anyone is interested in doing the same to their Mustang let me know and I'll send you the part dimensions.

BTW the photo of the cutoff head is me, I found out nurses make lousy photographers...Ha Ha! Better photos to follow, Stay tuned for more...

It would seem ol-Jon has taken a vacation, the photos may take a while. I would post them in the common posting but they are all 1.2 Mb each, a little over 500K limit.

I took some more of the installation today and I have a few more to post of the completed axle but I will wait until Jon comes back to post them.

Stay tuned.

Thanks for the photo posting Jon, here are some pics of the installation as it went tonight. I had some work ahead as the lower control arms needed some welding to fit the bushing sleeves (think those control arms are heavy duty enough?) but otherwise everything fit with only the nuts for the rod ends needing machining to get the correct installed length. This modification should totally transform the handling of the car and allow the horsepower to get to the ground a little easier. The rear upper control arm bushings fit perfectly and look like a million bucks to boot...too bad their under the car. I previously drove the car and it was certainly a handful, I'll admit it has more horses than it has feet to hold it,

Also my friend Rad (really that's his name!) will be installing the aftermarket front lower control arm bushings and adjustable camber plates, the camber plates include strut lengthening bushings so the car can be lowered and maintain the correct strut length. More engine mods are forthcoming also as the engine is only lightly modified.

I will try to get more photos as the build up progresses, maybe some G-tech trials will be in order too!! I can smell hot rubber already!!

Stay Tuned.
