I'm sorry to tell you this, but your trans is doing what it is suposed to do. MOst likely what has happened is your new trans guy just did a simple rebuilt without any kind of shift kit which is how you could shift at any rpm you wanted.

Early design 700 tranny will upshift to 2nd gear while the shifter is in 1st.
You can do 1 of 2 things; Install a larger low/reverse boost valve (.296 diameter)... or install a TransGo shift kit... 700- 2 & 3 kit , will over ride the command to upshift from 1st to 2nd gear while the shifter is in 1st gear. IF you have a late 1987 & newer 700 tranny, perhaps the shifter adjustment is out or your tranny builder did something I am not thinking of at the moment. Could be mismatched parts

Are you sure that your "barn builder" trans shop used YOUR old trans and not a different one that he had laying around?
Also, i'll just toss this in, may or may not apply. If you USED to have a shift kit in it and he used stock gaskets on a different shift kit seperator plate, it could mess things up. Reason I say this is because when I did a Transgo 1-2 kit on my TH400, it said I HAD to use the Transgo VB gasket from the plate to the case for it to work correctly. I take that to mean that if I used a stock VB gasket with that seperator plate, it would NOT work the way Transgo designed it. Mark |
