My BBC build.

I have been dragging this out for some time an it is finally starting to come together. Thought I would share some pictures. Should be able to start on it
again some this weekend.

Those are some TRW's I have that have never been used before. You are suppose to be able to run them either way CC or OC. Should be around 10.8. I check the piston to valve clearance after I put the first piston in an everything was good.

I have a lot of irons in the fire ,it is slow go. I already have parts bought. I try to work on it when I do not have any distractions.

Looks great. I don't know what heads you are using. Remember. You can't use that dome with GM oval port OC or CC heads.

Okay I seriously have never heard the terms OC or CC used before any chance closed chamber open chamber?... can anyone explain this to me? lol thanks.

Tell me more on using GM ovals heads with these pistons. I am not using GM heads.

CC- Closed chamber heads, have a tight bathtub style combustion chamber. OC- Open chamber, have the chamber spark plug side laid over like half of a hemisphere. Makes for better emission and also breathes better. Better flame travel. 65-70 oval port heads CC. 71 and later, most are OC.

OK. The TRW pistons you have were designed to be used with rectangle port closed chamberGM heads
These heads are not the same in the combustion
chamber as the oval port. Tho, to the casual glance they look alike. The rectangle port heads use a chamber that is releived more around the perimiter. Making the chamber just a bit larger across the distance of the valve faces. The oval port head will hit the pistons on the exhaust side at the deck and outer edge of the dome.

Nice..I have a never used set of Merlin VR 345cc heads that would look good on that..All Manely valves,springs ect..Pocket ported by Bud Harper.One problem..Iím in Afghanistan! Be lookin to sell soon though.Be great on a 496.

What? I'm using TRW forged domed pistons with oval port, closed chamber heads in the 427 in my '71 Camaro. They've been in there for 13 yrs. now, and no clearance issues.
Is there something about these particular domed pistons the OP is using that is obvious that I can't see looking at them? They appear to be the same thing I've got in my engine.

I have the KB (25CC) domed pistons with 820 heads (the heads have the larger (rect port) valves w/machining to unshroud). When I assembled, the outer edge of the dome did hit inside the chamber (not the deck); which I clearanced with quite some effort. (I worked until they cleared w/o head gasket - this gives me plenty of clearance when installed with regular .041 compressed gaskets).



Bowtie - with 10.8 DCR, you will have big problems running pump gas.
