if you watch a video of a blower engine on the dyno the headers will NOT glow red.

I would have to agree with Chet and some of the other gentlemen, Time seems the cause for backfire and red glowing is a fuel issue, I would put my self out and say to lean or to rich. do vacum test and run 16 PSI, get number one TDC rotate to intake and make sure they are TDC. With dual 4's adjustment is critical as well as linkage set up. If you have a local tuner or shop that dyno tunes its worth the extra $$ to get this perfect and they will find extra HP also. its like $125.00 per hour around here, but well worth they money. Hope you post what you found to be the problem, very interested in the results.

Yup and they are running on the edge and get rebuilt after every race. Are you willing to rebuild your engine every couple hundred miles. Dragsters also glow the exhaust and the engines are good for 4 seconds before requiring a rebuild.

Any hot hard start issue resulting from locked out distributor advance is easily dealt with by using a simple spark power interupt switch to kill the spark during initial starter cranking.

Crank it over with the switch off and hit the switch once it get cranking and it will fire immediately.

Blower motors need lots and lots of initial timing at idle.

Make sure the rear starter support bracket brace is installed on your GM starter motor. Its a required OEM $10 part.

As far as watching glowing headers on dyno motors that have nothing to do with your motor or glowing headers at idle or 3000 rpm part throttle, you seem hell bent on being a fool.

Glowing headers is fuel burning late in the exhaust system.
(not enough spark advance,lean fuel air mix, over rich fuel air mix, spark misfire, incomplete late combustion))
Nitromethane burns so slow it never gets all burned in the chamber , thats why the nitro fueled blower motor's headers glow.
Exhaust valve and seat life is very low.

Fix the timing and the carbs before you melt this motor.

You may have a vacuum leak at a gasket joint.
If you don;t get it, get a pro to help you tune it.

You misunderstand: I'm not amazed at your posting skills, what I'm surprised at is being fairly adamant about bucking a lot of suggestions in the same direction. I don't know about you, but I couldn't risk my blown big block build without checking/doing some of these suggestions before having a real BLOWN BIG BLOCK BUILD!!!!!!!!!

I am totally confused, I did not comment on your grammar, is this somehow at stab at me? Is this thread about glowing headers? I am no Steve Morris or Jack Merkel I just try to help a fellow hotrodder if I can. I did not go to school or work my whole life as a mechanic but this thread is way out of hand. If you are trying to insult me that's fine I have big shoulders I can handle it. Don't listen to anyone, toast marshmallows on your headers or just stand around on a cold night with some friends and beer and keep warm.
