My buddies 95 z28 w/ a Ford v6 + turbo build

This project is the follow up to my buddies 12.79 @ 108 Taurus SHO project, the major problem with that car was that the engine was to good for the trans and chassis. The trans would constantly try to start out in second gear ... or explode. But get the car out on the Mexican highway and it would run with cars that were supposedly way faster then it

I wanted to make the Taurus RWD to fix its inherent problems, but this is the direction we decided to go instead. And the guys on the local forum hate this car even more then they hated the Taurus

95 z28 that came already gutted
professional 6 point cage installed along with subframe connectors (weld in)
cowl cut out to push the engine all the way to the firewall
custom trans adapter plate
GM TH400 trans (fully built inc alum drum and trans lock)
custom built converter - 9in, 5500 stall
6 port nitrous setup waiting in the closet just in case
tubular "turbo" front crossmember + control arms
67mm 67/65 Precision turbo
fully rebuilt engine inc forged pistons and +1mm valves
all piping will be SS or alum

That will have even more meaning when the Ford in a Chevy is smoked by a Chevy in a Chevy. Nice project though

and to cover some of the hate this project has received thus far:

Quote:
So let me get this right...you're taking a camaro, which came from the factory with a proven V8 that can get the job done and then some...and, taking that motor out, and putting in one that was never meant to go in there, that makes less power, has fewer cylinders/less displacement, and comes from a Ford back in their "Found On Roadside Dead" era? Awesome....

this has to be a joke..

If this were a Facebook status...NOBODY would click "like."

A fox mustang would have been a much better platform....weighs less and a much better rear end from the factory.

Agreed x100000. Then a Twin turbo v6 would have been saweeeet. Then its a ford on ford type of deal and not a fml abomination.
Quote:
What a ****ing WASTE.
Quote:
I ****ing hate you, and I dont even know you. I hope this whole project fails miserably after a week of having it finished. And I hope it fails in a blaze of glory and burns the entire car to the ****ing ground. Its not even a Camaro anymore.

No, they are from the local car forum. A website that has a reputation far and wide as being a glaring example of fetal alcohol syndrome.

It may have two less cylinders but don't sell the turbo boosted SHO short. 5500 stall converter: hang on and enjoy the ride.

A wise old mad once told me "it's only iron it has no idea of who built it"

All of his family are Ford guys and his middle sons super gas car had a 512" BBF in a 65 Corvette for about 15 years before he sold it to a guy in NY.

on tuesday we cleaned it up and Alex dropped in the crank for the test fit while i started tapping out all the bolt holes.

flipped it over and found the machine shop screwed up on boring the block (.08 wall clearance instead of .0035)

so we finished stripping the other block .... which i may or may not have dropped 2 feet onto the concrete floor the day before. (its fine)

I have a shop glass now, makes my beer feel higher class

heres some stuff laying on the floor. its probably not important

this is where i get t o stuff an intercooler

side view of the bay, 30" between the frame rails, and like 25 between the strut towers (people build forward / up ls1 turbo headers in that tight space? ***?)

all of that stuff must die. Theres a harness on the frame rail behind the brake lines. Its going to have to be evicted. sway bar mounts are gonna have to go waaaay down too for turbo clearance.

Notched wiper cowl. the firewall is getting a 5" setback too, at the same time i will weld up the heater hole

You do realize as soon as you alter and move the firewall the car will be required to have a 12-point cage if you want to drag race it at a NHRA or IHRA track?? Just a heads up, firewall or forward floorpan modifications larger than 2 square feet make the 6 or 8-point roll bar no longer legal.
