My Donor & Project Idea

Shes a 1980 plymouth Volare with a Slant six. I got it off my neighbor for $200 & initially planned to smash it with my truck when its luck ran out. However, the old slant has grown on me & I started thinking about pulling & rebuilding it for a rod build when the time came.
Now im thinking I should use as many parts from it as I can, including the 8 3/4 rear end & the tranny. Otherwise the bellhousing can be adapted fairly easily (so ive heard) to fit a T5.
I want to do a T style frame, but for the body I had the idea of chopping & narrowing an old truck cab. Pretty original idea i thought until I opened up this months rod & custom!
In the meantime my sister & I threw on a rattlecan job. The flames have been outlined since these pics, but pay special attention to the "Bingo Players Do It Til They Pass Out" bumper sticker!

I fail to see a problem with it just the way it is! Clifford performance has everything you need to make that /6 rock out with it's rooster out. The thing about 'roddin is being different.

I think a T-5 is a good idea though. I'll be keepin' an eye for more posts and pictures!

No doubt we are having a good summer with it! I just fitting a skateboard wheel to the shifter!
The problem with the car though is that the body is swiss cheese. I looked into replacing the quarters & rockers but the cost isnt justified for an 80 volare...
The flat black helps cover hide the cancer, but if you look close you just might see some duct tape & bondo here & there...
I figure why not let the heart live on, even though the body has died? Plus that was my first flame job, wait til you see the next one!
Oh & good call on clifford performance!

If you are waiting for the engine to die, you could be waiting a long time. Those slant 6 engines were about the best engine that was ever made. They run forever

While everyone has their own favorites, I doubt anyone could debunk your opinion with fact. Even though I'm an AMC nut, I have to agree. The /6 is probably the best motor ever made, and it will run forever.

Oh, yeah, the bumper sticker says "Bingo Players do it until they BLACK out", haha! Makes a little more sense that way!

Of course they do it til they BLACK out!
Also, did you notice the handicap sticker on the window? Thats not going anywhere...
Im not waiting for it to die, just waiting til i get a new house with a garage. Plus i figure ill need to do the body first.
The slant is so great cuz it is so overbuilt. It was originally designed to be cast in aluminum, & some where, but got too pricey so they just did it in iron, resulting in a thick thick block. You can bore them a good ways & shave a bunch off the top.
Something a lil different for the rod... This months ol skool rods has a car with one & the guy says some people cant figure out what it is for the life of them!

So instead of starting with a fullsize body i was thinking of using a small truck for the cab & just chop the roof.
I did a bit of searching & found a rod along the same lines as what I was thinking, although I think this guy just modded the s10's frame...
