Question My First Hot Rod

Hey Guys, this is my first time to post a question, not to mention this is my first solo journey into building a hot rod..I am not exactly sure on how to tell the difference between a 350 and a 305...Between me and my dad he was the engine man and I did our painting etc...He is not with us to guide me anymore so if ya'll can help give me a holler...
I've got to get now, if anyone can help e-mail me

the best way is to pick up a casting numbers guide. you can get them at a book store. the casting number is on the rear of the engine block on the drivers side right at the bellhousing flange you will see it right behind the head although you might have to scrape away some crud to see it. i also know that there are a few web sites that have the numbers some other folks here know what they are. good luck
