Lots of guys on this board consider anyone who is an "import enthusiast" to be a ricer - no matter if their modifications are truly performance or not.

Other guys have a solid respect for anyone who modifies their cars with performance goals in mind and will call them a hotrodder - even if their car is an import.

You'll probably get it from both ends

re: My Import Theory.

well i am 17 , i am not into the ricer seen at all, except for the girls of course. but i dislike ricers ,cause most of them just run around with thier little 4 bangers and no exhast. sounds like a weed eator to me. i own a 70chevelle that i got from the junk yard no motor or trans rusty body you name it.built it up did all the work my self about 90 %. a hot rodder is some one who does the work himself. doesnt go out and pays some one to do it for him. and they spend probley around 30,000$ to get a 10 second car. with that money i could get a 7 or 8 second car easliy. just as they said earliy they are made for economy not racing!!!!!!!!!!!

Keywords are you kept the body stock, in my books that simply means from reading that you don't fall in the ricer category. To me "ricers" have ridiculous wings that can double as a bar, fiberglass body kits usually left in primer, wheels with incorrect offset so they stick outside of the wheel wells and of course the required 4" fart pipe exhaust tip so it sounds like an overworked weedwhacker.

re: My Import Theory.

I dont mind the informed ricers (which we dont have alot of around here), they actually can have some really nice cars. The ones I HATE alot are the ones that put on a fart can and a wing and think they are the fastest thing around. Thats just my opinion.

ok cool. well i will get it from both sides...but i agree with what u wrote. i just cant stand those damn civics and neons that will try to pull up and wanna take me at the light...i just sit there and think in my head, "it's all you man...you are the fastest guy in town!" he also probably has about 30 stupid moving violations.

You can get some decent power for fairly cheap if your willing to search high and low for the right vehicle. I used to be stupid and bla bla always complain about the ricer crowd and when I actually came onto the board the first time, I made a dumb thread about why do people buy imports but I was just tired of the whole "ricer" crowd. Of course it's perfectly fine for people to buy imports, who wouldn't want something that's light, a little power to get you here and there, and best part of all 30 mpg with the 3 bucks a gallon for 87 octane Sounds like a great deal which is why I'm going to be driving an import around or american with good mpg and turn my camino into a weekend cruiser/occasional fun burnouts once in a while but right now, it's pretty hard to afford gas with the way it's going.

I just don't like how people think they're getting performance by slapping a big wing on a fwd car (that says everything about how much they know ), covering them with summit and other racing decals, a colorful new wiring setup, k&n filter, and of course my favorite the weed eater muffler. Actual gains for all that money wasted.. I mean spent! And then of course the whole attitude, "Hey look at me, I'm revving my engine at you! That's right, I'm a complete bad *** for doing this." People most of the time shake their heads and just drive on as usual. Don't get me wrong, with a hefty budget, you can make 4 cylinders flyyy but with all that money invested into making something like that, you could of easily gotten a small/big block and gone from there ending up with much more horsepower and have some leftover cash to spend on beers and having fun building a blown gremlin @ hemmi

re: My Import Theory.

speakin of uniformed ricers, I was at a cruise in no more than a hour ago, this little celica with a wing and a fart can parked next to one of the guys I was talkin to(he had my dream car, 57 belair ht with a 383 and 6.71 blower holley strip dominator carbs, no hood, classic lookin buckets, the whole shabang), and then continued to talk to the guy ridin in the seat next to him about how the ugly old cars around here couldnt beat a girl on a bicycle and the really old ugly car next to him had a FAKE PLASTIC BLOWER THAT WAS JUST AN ENORMOUS AIR CLEANER, well that really pissed off the guy I was talkin to he cranked it up to prove it wasnt "fake". By this time a crowd had formed around us and the little civic challenged him to a race (roads were closed for the cruise in), the guy had just asked if I wanted a ride so I rode along with him as the little civic looked like he just saw a car faster than his......oh wait HE DID. Those are the kind of guys I hate, come in startin trouble, get beat, then go home and pout about it, and make up excuses (that damn clutch just wasnt workin ). BTW that is what it looked like he did after we got to the next stoplight he had turned off the road. I love american muscle.

re: My Import Theory.

And continuing to give "ricers" a bad name was the moron driving a Honda with the obligatory fart-pipe last night. Using every single one of his alcohol impaired single digit IQ during some real intense thunderstorms he decided to race a Chevy F-Body down my street. Only a few problems:

1. He was toasted before he even started his car.
2. I live on a cul-de-sac with a great big yew tree in the circle at the end.
3. There was probably around 4" of standing water for the last 200' of the road.
4. 70+ mph, alcohol, wet brakes and aquaplaning don't mix.

Yes he buried his import right into the yew tree. And while I have nothing against "tuner cars", I have a real issue with morons like this who cause others to be tarred with the same brush.

Of course I do not think to highly of the law enforcement officer who decided NOT to book the driver with DUI because he had "suffered enough with the damage to his car and nobody else was hurt", but that's another pet peeve.

You can never understand the mind of a rice burner.

I say if they choose to come in, let em hear what we hafta say. After all, it is the truley dumb ones who come here and say their ricers are better than our muscle. I've forgeten his name at this point but we have a well respected ricer guy here who has asked questions but never said anything bad about our cars, therfore not making us say anything bad about his car.

Yes but i dont believe it says v8 hotrodders.com either. or domestichotrodders.com...
you can hotrod a 4cyl. the mitsubishi evo8 has more horsepower than my v8 hotrod pickup has.

The problem arises when you see a stock honda crv that has 112hp. with a fart can and an intake revving around everybody like they think they have something.

re: My Import Theory.

Personally I think that just for the sake of maintaining the integrity of this board, a mutually agreed upon defintion of "ricer" should be decdided upon.

I feel that the guy who has a Honda Civic, the desire to improve its performance and takes the time to ask the questions, learn about the mechanics involved and then goes and gets his hands greasy working on it is no less desrving of being called a "Hotrodder" than the guy with a 1972 Chevelle 6 cylinder who transplants a BBC and goes racing.

On the other hand, the same guy with the '72 Chevelle 6 cyl. who puts shackles, fat tires and a glasspack on his car and runs around bragging how fast he is is no different than the guy with the civic putting the 10' wing, fart can, neon lights and body kit on it and bragging. Both are considered "ricers" in my opinion.

To me Hotrodding is a state of mind, ricers are simply posers.
