"slow" could be soo many different things. To address your question you can swap gears depending on the current rear axle set up you have. If the other 3.73 gears are set up in another axle it would probably be easier to just swap the axle as it wouldnt be much more than a take out and replace process. Do you know what gears are in the car now? Does slow mean your getting rpms but the rest of the car isnt responding to it. Are you getting any roughness in the engine, meaning rough idle, rough start, fluctuations, bad pedal response? More details gbet better responses. We're all glad to help.

I think the v6 cars usually had a pretty steep rear gear, do you know what the current gears are? Is this a 700R or a manual?

I tend to think gearing isn't your issue, either trans will give you a good multiplier. What are the specs on this 355? Are you sure you're running enough timing?

How is the state of tune? Timing, fuel curve, etc.

Well guys i am starting to think it is the tranny because when the machine shop gave it back to me they had the kickdown cable adjusted way way off and by the time I realized the problem it might of been too late the car runs very very strong it was built for the track but its lacking and the reason for me saying my gears is that this so called machine shop somewhere In Kentland Indiana swares on his life that its because my rearend is wrong.I think I got ripped off big time and just need an inexpensive fix i'm currently into the motor and trans 5,500 should I just dump a 350 in it and throw my worked 700r4 through Mr. Youngs Window HELP

RPO Sticker

If the rear end is original, it should be 3.42:1 (RPO "GU6". If it's a posi you should see "G80").

The ratio and other info can be found on the RPO sticker, provided the gear ratio wasn't changed. The RPO code sticker is usually located in the center console on the passenger side wall. Sometimes it's under the hatch.

A list of what the codes mean is HERE.
