My new baby arrived today

As you know I'm 60 and single, so it isn't that kind of baby. I believe this will be the final engine and most anything else done to the Track-T. As much as I enjoyed the torque at low rpm of the 383 sbc, I did miss the high rpm zing of the 355 circle track engine. The 355 had a nasty exhaust bark, radical idle, and the street manners of a gang banger. The 383 had a sweet idle and impeccable street manners plus great mpg. I'm hoping to have a good mix of the attributes of both of those engines.

On the engine dyno;

526.3 HP @ 5700 rpm

556.2 lb/ft @ 4400 rpm

That makes two of us. The Track-T it is going in weighs 1790 lbs and has a Tremec TKO 600 5-speed stick. Should be a hoot to drive.

Does the handle "snakebit" mean you have a Cobra replica and have burned your leg on the side exhaust.

As tall as I'm geared and the light weight, I'm hoping for something in the 20's for flat highway cruising. Broke 30 mpg with the 383.

The important thing is launch and traction permitting, will have my first mid 9 second street ride with a decent idle and street manners. I'll know all this soon enough.

Brian and Randy,

Thank you for your concern.

I'll be dialing into it slowly, no desire to be pushing up daises. Like I said, this level of performance is new to me.

Bill, as most of us don't even have doors, I guess that was tongue in cheek?

Shafiroff makes damn fine engines. I worked with a young man who raced an 89 Mustang in the 10.5 class. He had a Shafiroff big block Chevy in it. He flogged that Mustang just about every weekend for four years solid. You will get plenty of grins with that engine, congrats.

Thanks Vince. As much as I would have liked to patronize a west coast builder closer to me, This engine that Scott builds should not be the knuckle dragging race engines I've had in the Track-T in the past, plus shipping was covered on purchase price. The torque and HP numbers are produced at a reasonable rpm and it will live on 91 octane that we have out here. A civil engine with good manners is what I'm hoping for, and I believe Shafiroff isn't over the edge. Your friend using one of his race engines is good proof he selects proper components for the build.
