Question MYSTERY ENGINE HELP!!!!!!

I just bought a 1985 crown vic its an old police intercepter I think.

Here goes...
the speedometer goes to 140 and has the certified calibration of a police car, but i have receipts saying that it has been changed.

Now looking at the engine the emissions tag says it has a 302 in it the police cars do not...but the firing order has been crossed out and has been placed with the 351 firing order.
I have receipts saying the engine has been changed now ive heard that the 351w is 9 1/2" wide and the 302 is 7 1/2" wide at the intake. Mine is 9 1/2" at the intake.

But looking at the casting numbers on the block it says E7TE-CA and i found out on the internet that stands for a 302 H.O. with roller lifters and etc. which it has...

its wider than a 302 and taller than my other 302 so now i am confused greatly on what this engine is... could someone have put on 351 heads on a 302 or is it a 351 or what i am so confused right now PLEASE HELP!!!!!

remeasure the intake I'm sure you will find it's a 302.E7TE is a hipo 302 and will have the 351 fireing order, this is the same engine that came in mustang GT and all trucks E=80s 7=7 T = truck E= engine it is a roller motor and has a hi perf cam

E7TE is a date and application code and does not tell you anything about the size of the engine. Every engine produced in 87 for a truck had this number cast in at the factory. If your engine is indeed taller and wider than a 302 (check your measurements) then what you have is a 351W. There is really no way to miss this as a 351W intake manifold is much wider from flange to flange than a 302. Honestly side by side the 351W is wider and taller and you can't miss it. The RCMP Crown Vic highway cars here in Canada got the 351W engines while the city versions had the 302.

i have another crown vic like this one a regular one with the 302 in it and it is indeed smaller than than this engine thats why im so confused
but like u said chuck the casting number doesnt mean anything with the size of the engine????
really?? but remeasuring it is def 9 1/2 inches wide definitely... and it couldnt have just 351 heads on it because it has 3/8 bolts and if you put 351 heads on it it/s supposed to have a 7/16 right???

ok i screwed up i said that the 302 in my other car was indeed smaller i was wrong, remeasuring the intake it is about 9 1/2 inches wide

now is that where you are supposed to measure it or...? down on the block?? where???

so point being i have a 302 that is 9 1/2 inches wide that is not a H.O. or anything, it is a crappy
302 with throttle body fuel injection

SOMEONE PLEASE PLEASE TELL ME WHAT IS GOIN ON?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!?!?!?!

yo shag, chill out. 1st,is there a metal tag near the front of the motor, it is stamped with a code?
2nd,take this to a ford dealer, may be able to id the motor. how about the casting number right above the starter? to measure the difference between 302 and 351- from bottom of oil pan to intake is 20 3/4 inch on 302 - 23 3/4 inch for 351
302 is 18 3/4 inch wide 351 is 21 inch wide
deck height(distance from center of crank to top of cylinder) 302 is 8inch 351 is 9 1/2 inch(pre 1971 is 9.48)
if you need more help,i will try, just send the o`l mail thing. arent fords fun? i really like my fords but sometimes i have to wonder,WHAT THE HELL WERE THEY THINKING OF,when they did some of these changes! good luck.
