narrowing a ford 9"

I was told it is easer to narrow a ford 9" than it would be to a gm case. Is this true or was i mislead. im wanting a stout rearend for my 62 chevy. they say you cant beat a ford 9". any help would be great.

They can all be narrowed.But I like the 9'' the best.

dumb question but what does the narrowing do other than allowing you to run a wider tire.

Less axle twist,I suppose, But mainlt to allow you to run a bigger tire and not have them sticking out past the fender.

9" being easier?
only because you can get custom length axles cheaper

GM's design is a cast center section with tubes pressed in.

alot easier to extract the tubes cut the end that goes into the center section
and put it back together,
but axles are more costly
and cast iron is prone to crack
