Interesting project, will be fun to watch the progress.
Be sure to allow enough suspension drop to get the tires off. |

Interesting project from an old Bronco owner. With that narrow rear end, bit meats, and short wheel base, it will be a handful keeping it in a straight line. Just a thought, since there is going to be such a short distance between the tubs, why not make one big tub and put your fuel cell under the center, installed just above the third member.
Keep the progress reports coming, please. Trees |

Both are great comments.... My friend and I were thinking about what may have to be done to remove the tire. This is a first for me or him. We were thinking that if the suspension did not drop far enough shock bolts may need to be pulled to let it swing down farther? The thought here is it is not a vehicle that you would be changing a flat on the side of the road.
If the wheel was coming off it would be to work on and a couple of extra bolts removed would not be to difficult. When talking about this we were wondering what other people did. It was tough getting eveything in... I think it could have been approached a bit differently to make it easier. It is a learning experience ![]() As far as the fuel cell, good idea...If at all possible I want to retain the stock bed look. Going with a wheel tub straight across will definetly make things easier on a couple of things. I have an idea in mind on appearance and but may have to modify the plans as I/we run into trouble I guess the thought here is try to accomplish what you have in mind, making compromises if necessary. Thanks for the feedback! |

I seen a glimpse of a little red half cab in your gallery. Cool! I have a stock 74 that I will put a half cab on. If my wife will put up with it I may end up with keeping 3 trucks. Off roader, stock and streetrod Bronco or... I just may have to sell the half cab bronco to help fund an engine for this project.

Hoping over to front end... Rear is roughed in... I need to see what is required for the front. I may need to make changes to the rear I want to see what the stance will look like before welding anything.

I have frame rails tacked together and clamped in place.
Rear end already has multi hole brackets welded @ angle for shocks. Pivot points need to be parallel but what determines shock length? Once the cross bar is located I can simply measure for shock length. cross bar placement is based on? Amount of room? easiest place to locate? Is there a preference when it comes to length for shock? stay away from a particular minimum or maxium length. I have a little flexibility in where I mount a crossbar for upper shock mounts. Should I try to fit the largest length shock possible. (Just tossed in another photo, starting thinking amount of chop before I went on vacation. 7" chop of mock up window frame.) According to the diagram I seen on autoweldchassis.com's set up offered.
It appears from the side view the shocks are mounted vertical (perpedicular to horizontal ladder bar) So it appears that they will be perp from the side view and angled inboard from the rear view. I guess that is how I will roll unless I find out otherwise... |

Picked up an engine and tranmission for my build today!
Only has 11,000 miles. I want to build the internals a bit more Pistons, rods, but since it is practically new I'll get it in get it running and use it a while. Beef it up at a later time, eventually I will add a supercharger. Last edited by 77bronco_ed; 07-29-2011 at 08:57 PM. |

In seeing how my build was progressing not much of the original frame was left. I ended up going in a different direction... I had a small company "checkered racing" build me a frame. The price was very good and I have a much cleaner build. I was getting into areas that I did not have much experience in and thought it is best to make sure that it will drive fine once finished. Some modifications were still needed to the frame but... All in all it is coming along.
