Question Nason U-Prime 491-12

Anyone know anything about this primer ? I have looked on DuPont web sight but don't see it listed. I have a gallon of Nason Ruby Red Mica paint and on the tech sheet it don't mention this primer ether. On the can of primer it says it can be used under all Nason topcoats. but...............

I wouldn't go by what the primer says. I'd go by what the top coat says. If you're using a top coat that doesn't mention the primer you intend to use is compatible then I would't use it. Manufacturers sometimes change the chemical makeup of their paints and what used to work with a particular type of primer may not work anymore.

Good luck,

Centerline

Sent off a email to the Tech Ref , all they had to say was the product was no longer available. Guess I'll just do a few test panels.

I sent a email to tech ref on this and here is their reply.

"491-12 can be used with any Nason® topcoat but you must use the same reducer in the primer that you will use in the color.
491-12 is mixed at 2:1 with the reducer and is enamel chemistry. It has been discontinued due to enviornmental laws."

With this email I feel much better about using it as the paint is enamel . With the enviornmental laws I'm sure there are several good products that have been discontinued .

Nason had a catalyzed enamel and a non catalyzed enamel, stuff flowed like glass and held up real well. i think the catalyzed stuff was in a yellow and white can
