need advice on 54 chevy

Hey all, I just purchased a 54 chevy 2dr. hardtop belair and would like to see if anyone has any advice on parts companies, 54 chev. specific tech advice, or any general ideas on fixin' this car. It's running and somewhat driveable, with original drive train, solid body, decent floors...just needs ALOT of little projects completed. Thanks in advance for your help....

As a moderator here, I would like to be the first to Welcome you here. While I have no real experience with that year and model, we have quite a few members with the 49 to 54 Chevrolets and most have a wide range of experiences with them.

This is a real good tech and parts source for the 54 Chevy buff.
http://www.nationalchevyassoc.com/

The NCA caters more to stock applications but it's still a good place to go to get valuble info. Good luck with the project. 53 and 54 hardtop rods are really coming out of the closet lately. Personally they're one of my favorite rides.

Basicly if it's original you have a 235 I6 with ither a powerglide automatic or a 3 spd on the colum, the automatic will have 3.55 gears in the rear and the 3spd will have 4.10's, the automatic engine makes slightly more HP by original #. the front end is a IFS but uses king pins rather than ball joints and is the same engine as Corvettes up to the 1959 model year, some sway bars and other retrofit stuff you may find for the 1959 and earlier corvette will work on your '54.

Aren't the front fenders 53 too? 54 fenders, stop behind the turn sigs and there's a bracket on the bottom of 'em that attaches to the splash pan. 53 fenders go all the way down. The flat 53 front pan just screws to the front of 'em.
